Christchurch Yarns NZ Ltd was originally called Christchurch Carpet Yarns Limited and the plant situated in Sheffield Crescent, Burnside, Christchurch, was built in the mid 1970's. Mair Astley Limited, then a public listed company, acquired the company at the end of the 1970's. The plant underwent a major expansion in 1986.
Brintons Pty Ltd, an Australian company wholly owned by United Kingdom based Brintons Limited, purchased the company in January 1994 and changed the name to Brintons Christchurch Yarns Limited until June 2004 when it was sold to local investors and re-named Christchurch Yarns New Zealand Limited.
